Simon
& Schuster has acquired a coming-of-age memoir described as a blend of
The Help and television programme "Six Feet Under".
Suzanne
Baboneau bought UK and Commonwealth rights in The Undertaker's Daughter
by Kate Mayfield from Oliver Munson at A M Heath. In the book, Mayfield
describes her upbringing in a small-town Kentucky funeral home during the
1960s.
It
will be published by Abby Zidle at Simon & Schuster's Gallery imprint in
the US, and both will release the title as a lead memoir in autumn 2014.
Baboneau
said: "This is a true delight of a memoir, vividly, enchantingly and
movingly told. We are so very pleased to be publishing Kate, the undertaker's
daughter who now, rather wonderfully, lives in London, on our list next
year."
